Spring Training Game 22: Orioles vs. Twins

Written by Daniel Moroz on .

Brian Roberts makes his first appearance of the Spring, back in his usual lead-off spot. Chris Tillman's on the mound against a line-up that doesn't have the new $184 M man in it. I think it's really good for baseball that Mauer will be staying in Minnesota, but $23 M a year is a pretty hefty price for a catcher. Hope it turns out well for them. The Good: * Roberts played. * Jason Berken pitched four very good innings in relief, shutting out the Twins on two hits and striking out 3. * Nolan Reimold picked up two hits in three plate appearances, including his first home run. The Bad: * Roberts wasn't exactly spectacular, striking out in all three trips to the plate. Health is the main concern though. * Tillman only allowed 2 runs in 4.1 IP while K'ing 4, but he also walked 4 batters and gave up a home run. Not exactly sharp. * Miguel Tejada made his fourth error of the Spring at third-base. * Only 6 hits and no walks - with 11 K's - from the line-up. Eww. The Final: Another less than stellar offensive performance, and the O's fall 4-3. That drops their record to 9-13.
