Spring Training Game 23: Orioles vs. Red Sox

David Hernandez, who apparently still has a fair chance at the 5th rotation spot, gets the start. He's had a good Spring, minus the home run issue that also plagued him last year. The Good: * Hernandez was excellent, shutting the Sox out for 5 innings with 6 strike-outs. He allowed 4 hits (all singles) and 2 walks, though the 7 flyouts to 2 groundouts wasn't fantastic. * The bullpen had another good day, with Cla Meredtih (three groundouts), Will Ohman, and Alberto Castillo all pitching perfect innings. * Garrett Atkins went 3-4 at the plate, including a double off of John Lackey. * Justin Turner, playing second-base, picked up a couple of hits and drove in 3 runs. I doubt he makes the team, but next year he might be looking at a utility spot once Wiggy's gone. The Bad: * More than one walk - from pinch-hitter Jeff Salazar - would have been nice. The Final: The Orioles pick up with the 6-1 win. That moves them to 10-13 overall on the Spring, and 2-1 against the Red Sox (with one game to go against Boston).
