Spring Training Game 9: Orioles at Twins

Written by Daniel Moroz on .

The Birds send their #1, Kevin Millwood, out to the mound to take on - basically - the Twins' starting line-up and top pitcher (Scott Baker). The Good: * Nolan Reimold batting lead-off! I love it. The guy's best skill is his batting eye, and if Roberts is out then Nolan is 100% the guy I want taking his place in the line-up. As I said previously, you could make the argument that Reimold should be batting first in any case. * Koji tossed a perfect inning, and struck out two. * Nick Markakis had two singles in three at bats. Still hasn't drawn a walk this Spring though (14 plate appearances). The Bad: * Robert Andino batting second. HE HAS A CAREER .264 OBP! IT DOESN'T MATTER IF HE'S FAST OR PLAYS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INFIELD! WHAT THE HELL, DAVE? (I usually hate all caps, but I really am yelling all this (to the internet) - sorry.) And no, it doesn't matter that Andino picked up a couple hits - a triple and a homer - in the game. * Wow, Kevin. Yikes. 2.2 IP, 5 R, 9 H, 1 BB, 2 K, 1 HR. A 29.70 ERA for the Spring. It doesn't matter, but that still looks bad. * David Hernandez did strike out 5 in 2.2 innings pitched, but he also gave up 3 runs on 5 hits (including another longball). * 0-3 for Luke, with a couple of strike-outs. Same for Nolan. Pedro Florimon only needed 2 at bats to K twice. O's lose 8-3 in eight innings (they didn't play a ninth, for some reason). Drops them to 2-7 on the Spring. 18 strikes-outs and just 2 walks between the two teams, with the Twins picking up 17 base-hits and the Orioles 10.
