The Orioles were pounded by the Rangers yesterday, giving up 14 runs on 18 hits (two home runs). The O's will bring up Mitch Atkins to pitch against Matt Harrison and the Texas Rangers.
A very good lineup, as many saw yesterday. They pounded out hit after hit (double after double, if you watched the 2nd inning last night). Beltre and Chavez hit home runs, which shows that they have power from 1-9 in the lineup.
Harrison's numbers aren't all that bad, a decent ERA but his xFIP is a little high. Also, he walks too many per nine, which usually comes back to hurt him. He enters tonight with a 6-7 record.
Throws a decently hard fastball and has a good change-up. Also, shows a good drop in velocity from his fastball/two-seamer to his curveball.
Though the O's got pounded yesterday, there were some spots in the lineup. J.J. has now homered in 9 straight series, Vlad walked twice (and was hit by a pitch, wow), and Reynolds hit two home runs (that's 6 in his past 5 games). Reynolds is kept in the 5th spot and Andino is back in tonight against the lefty.
Mitch Atkins (from Triple-A):
Atkins is called up from Triple-A and was acquired from Chicago (Cubs). Pretty decent numbers, based off of 46.1 IP this year.
Based off of last year with the Cubs. Uses mostly four pitches (also has a cutter, but under 2%) and his slider and curve have great movement. He gave up so many runs because he didn't hit his spots very well last year.
