The O's dropped back below .500 yesterday with a loss to the White Sox. They did take 3 of 4 on the road and cap off this road trip with a 3-game series in Kansas City.
The Royals, a surprise team this year along with the Indians (both are above .500), are getting the job done with both veterans and younger players. Gordon, after a few disappointing seasons, is finally coming through for the Royals. On the other side, the Royals are getting solid production from the veteran Francoeur. Pretty solid lineup even towards the end.
The once fantastic Francis (back from 2005-2007 with the Rockies) has greatly fallen off ever since the injury that he endured for all of 2009. Not his same self, he's been rather shoddy this year, he's extremely inconsistent.
Mixes up his pitches, starting with a decent sinker. His hook is probably his best pitch (though you could make a case for his change-up), but besides that it's not much.
Brian Roberts is given the day off and Izturis starts at 2nd for him. Not much different from the O's.
Bergy continues to leave the ball up and get banged around. Gives up over a home run per nine innings, and his ERA is still high. Only bright spot is his (rather) higher K/9.
Has a decent backdoor slider but not good swing-and-miss stuff. Somehow though, he's getting a decent amount of K's this year. He needs to keep that ball down if he wants to bring that ERA down with it.
